I used to keep a little tally in my knitting notebook to keep track of how many rows I’ve completed. Then I started using a row counter. This is my favorite one.
The rec is to click right at the beginning of your round! When I first started, I would reach for the counter at the end of the round as a little dopamine boost for finishing the row. But one day I switched to clicking at the beginning of the round. It is such a little change, but it transformed how I “read” my knitting. I can quickly tell what row I am on in the pattern and not having to do the math of +1.
