My father recently had surgery, and one of his goals is to get back to gardening. Some perfumed lilies sprouted quite spontaneously in a little patch in his garden and it's been so delightful for him.

I'm not sure where your friend is located, but I recommend finding a local flower CSA who does deliveries. The River City Flower Exchange is a collective of small flower farmers, and offers both pick up and deliveries for their flower CSA.
